Dataset Name

An identifier string, normally issued by the observatory, that uniquely indicates a set of files associated with a particular observation.

HST

Begins with a letter designing the instrument (I:WFC3, L:COS, J:ACS, U:WFPC2, O:STIS, N:NICMOS, Y:FOS, Z:HRS, W:WFPC, X:FOC).

HLA

Begins with HST, HNG or HAG.

GEMINI

Science Program ID followed by an observation number.

CFHT

The exposure number expressed as a string.

JCMT

The file name of the dataset in the JSA. For ACSIS, SCUBA and SCUBA-2, the dataset is the same as the original file name assigned by the observatory without the file extension, but for older instruments (i.e. SCAN data) the dataset name has the form PROJECTID@UTDATE_HASHCODE_INSTR_OBSNUM. Thus, for PROJECTID=m03ac03, UTDATE=2003-05-13, INSTR=das, OBSNUM=188, the dataset name is m03ac03@030513_190701_das_0188.

Examples: 692512 Unique MegaPrime ID.
GS-2002B-Q-10* All GEMINI data for the GS-2002B-Q-10 Proposal ID.
m03ac03@*das* All DAS raw data from the project M03AC03.
acsis*20081109* All ACSIS raw data and single-observation products from 2008-11-09.

P.I. Name

Name of the Principal Investigator whose research has required one or more observations. This might not be relevant for Survey-based Observations.

Proposal ID

Identification of any proposals for which observations has been acquired and sourced within the archive. The syntax is highly dependent on the Collection.

Proposal Title

Describes the scientific project for which a given observation has been acquired.

Examples *SCUBA/BLAST* | The Shaping of Planetary Nebulae*

Proposal Keyword(s)

Observation proposal specific value pairs to search on. Multiple values can be comma delimited.

Examples Absorption lines | Active galaxies | Dynamics, Emission lines

Target

Search using target name or RA DEC (degrees or sexigessimal) with optional radius (in degrees by default). In order to search the original target designation of the observation, please select "Object Name" as the Resolver.

Examples: M101 | clusters | 210.05 54.3 | M101, 0.5 | M101 30

The file upload portion supports a list of targets in a file, one target per line. For now, we only support either a file of all Object Name targets, or all resolveable. We cannot currently support a mix.

Pixel Scale

Select the range of pixel scale (aka spatial sample size per detector element), of the data.

Examples: 0.02..0.05 | 10..20

Observation Date

Search using a single time, or a range of times; multiple values in a range can be space or comma-separated. Times can be in JD, MJD, or ISO8601 format (date and time separated by space or the letter T). ISO8601 format must include at least the year (yyyy) and may include the complete date and time (yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss.SSS) or a subset of the complete date and time.

Integration Time

Time camera shutter was open and collecting photons. For stacks and data-cubes, integration time includes the integration of all open-shutter times of the input components (stacks) or layers (data-cubes). Values are double values, so 1 hour and thirty minutes is 1.5hours.

Time Span

Often identical to the Integration Time, but for combined observations where the Time Span is the difference between the minimum Start Time and the maximum Stop Time of each contribution observation. Values are double values, so 1 hour and thirty minutes is 1.5hours.

Spectral Coverage

Search using a single energy value and units or a range of energy values with units; multiple values in a range can be space or comma-separated. Allowed energy units are: Hz, kHz, MHz, GHz, cm, mm, um, nm, m, A, eV, keV, MeV, GeV.

Examples: 800nm | 5 GeV..800 nm | 800..1200nm

Spectral Sampling

The size of the sampling of spectral energy. Normally the spectral resolution is about twice the sample resolution. A search value of "2 nm" implies a spectral dispersion of 2nm/pixel.

Examples: 20 nm | 3 GHz

Bandpass Width

Specify the wavelength coverage of the observation. Only observations that have spectral coverage that matches this range will be returned. For example, to find broad-band imaging one might query for observations with a range that exceeds 200nm while narrow-band imaging would be returned by searching for observations with a bandpass width of less than 100nm.
